Competition with Anthony Martial Only Makes Marcus Rashford Better

Manchester United has had the best possible start to the season. Jose Mourinho’s side is enjoying a great time heading into the international break. The team is second in the Premier League only behind Manchester City on goal difference.

Key to the success of the Red Devils this season has been the frontline duo of youngsters Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. The two have created quite the friendly rivalry for the starting line-up and getting on the score sheet. England international Marcus Rashford has been one of the key men under Mourinho’s reign at United. The striker believes that his healthy duel with Frenchman Anthony Martial is only for the best at Old Trafford. Jose has so far deployed Rashford as winger although the teenager sees himself more as a striker.

Rashford who spends the week on international duty with England duty had quite the exciting Premier League weekend. Justifying his selection in the starting line-up, the youngster played a crucial role in setting up two goals as United decimated Crystal Palace 4-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Martial was not far behind as he too assisted in a goal. Martial substituted 19-year-old Rashford and made an immediate impact. The competition between the two is proving beneficial for the club. According to Rashford, young players need competition and a competitive environment to excel. Rashford has emerged as one of the most promising prospects in the Premier League over the last two seasons. He has played a crucial role for both club and country attracting interests from Real Madrid FC, Juventus and PSG.

Rashford comes through United Academy and is one of the brightest prospects of the club. The training at Ashton-on-Mersey School, the playground for United’s trainees is quite helping the teenager. Though Rashford is already looked upon as someone who could fill shoes of Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Eric Cantona, the teenager has remained grounded. Rashford has the respect for club and players around him.
