The home-grown utility car manufacturer ‘Mahindra and Mahindra Limited’ is all set to launch a new electric powertrain Mahindra KUV100. The electric KUV100 will be released in the next year 2018. The company is looking forward to bring new SUV models with electric versions in the future.
M&M confirmed to introduce an electric version of KUV100. The managing director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, Pawan Goenka broadcasted the news earlier especially at the launch of Mahindra KUV100 NXT 2017 telling that the 4-metre electric KUV100 will be launched by late 2018. He also stated that the company is on its way to introduce all future SUV models with electric versions and the KUV100 will be listed as the first of this fleet of electric Mahindra cars. In the beginning of the month, the company spoke about the introduction of two new EVs by 2019 and the Mahindra KUV100 EV is one of them.
On the questions raised about the market status for electric models in the nation and the expectations of the company, Pawan Goenka said that whether they have 20% electric vehicles by 2030 or 100% is a multi-billion question. Presently, the company Mahindra is hedging its bet and took a decision to work on electric versions in the future. On being asked about the powertrain of Mahindra Electric vehicle, The President of M&M Rajan Wadhera said that the electric KUV100 will acquire all-new electric powertrain.
At present, the Mahindra Electric offers the e2o Plus and e-Supro for the light commercial vehicle segment and e-Verito for the passenger segment. Currently, these are the only electric models which are on sale in India.
Previously the Mahindra Company had also communicated about the leeway of an electric XUV Aero Coupe, based on the Indian company Mahindra XUV Aero Coupe Concept, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. One of the largest vehicle manufacturers in the nation is engaged with a long-range electric motor that could go up to 350 km on just one full charge, which could be the one used the XUV Aero Coupe EV.
The company recently harmonized with the lowest bid price that is offered by its major competitor Tata Motors under the chief auction of 10,000 electric cars and it will deliver 150 vehicles in the first phase, state-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). In addition to, it entered into the collaboration with transportation network company Ola to offer 200 e2o Plus for application based e-cabs service in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India.
