Phil Jones to Stay at Manchester United with a New Contract Worth £150,000 per Week

Phil Jones is having a great season so far. The 25-year-old English international is Mourinho’s first choice when it comes to the center-back lineup. In an attempt to reward his good performances at Old Trafford, Manchester United football club have decided to extend Phil Jones contract. The center-half is set to receive a bumper package that will be worth around £150,000 per week.

According to the football pundits, Phil Jones has justified Mourinho’s faith in him. The English defender has fought his way to become one best choice for his boss forming a formidable pair with Eric Bailly. Jones is enjoying his time under Mourinho era. This was something missing ever since the center-back came to Old Trafford from Blackburn Rovers in 2011. Six years after making his debut in a Red Devil’s shirt, Jones will get a salary hike that will make him one of the highest paid defenders in Premier League.

Former United greats have applauded Jones’ performances this season claiming that the center-back now belongs to the elite class in Premier League. The bumper increment in salary will see Jones in the same salary bracket as Chelsea’s David Luiz and Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany. Mourinho was pleased with Jones and how he pushed his game to a new level. After suffering injuries last season, he has come back stronger and there is no doubt that his contract needs to be renewed.

Jones now has only 20 months left on his current contract. Interestingly, Phil Jones has been replicating his wonderful form from Old Trafford at the international level as well. Owing to his Premier League exploits, the center- back has become a key player in Gareth Southgate’s England side. According to England boss, Jones would be a major player when his team reaches Russia next summer for the FIFA 2018 World Cup.
