After a record-breaking move to Real Madrid, is Gareth Bale turned into paperweight at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium? If reports are to be believed, this may sound disappointing but it is true. After making a world record transfer to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, the Welshman has been struggling to find a place at the Bernabéu.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of Gareth Bale ever since Jose Mourinho took charge of the club. But United have not been able to sign the winger as he was not up for sale by Madrid. However, it has now emerged that Real Madrid is regretting the chance to sell the Welshman when they had the chance earlier in the summer. According to latest reports, Real Madrid was ready to load off Bale to Manchester United but things got complicated when Zinedine Zidane named him in the starting line-up in the Uefa Super Cup final. This made things difficult for United as Jose Mourinho claimed it to be ‘mission impossible’ to land Gareth Bale at Old Trafford.
It looks like Real Madrid have no idea what they want to do with Gareth Bale. The president of the club, Florentino Perez wants to get rid of the former Spurs man but don’t have any possible suitors. Perez is fretting over the clubs decision to keep Bale at Real after the transfer window closed in summer. Real wanted to sign Monaco star Kylian Mbappe and raise the money for bidding by selling Bale to Manchester United. But Mbappe instead went to PSG on loan and Real were left in a spin about what to do with Bale. To add salt to injury, Bale is currently suffering from a leg injury which has sidelined him.
Bale has not been at his best since moving from White Hart Lane. The Welshman has played second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and more recently Tony Kroos. With so many stars in one team, the Zidane led management is finding it difficult to give space to Gareth Bale. Jose Mourinho and Manchester United are on high alert ever since the news came that Real want to sell Bale. After missing on the chance to sign Bale in 2017, Mourinho will go all guns blazing in the next window.
Meanwhile, Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini has reportedly turned down the opening contract offered by the Red Devils. The 29 year old Belgian has the just 2017-18 season left on his contract and unless he signs a new deal. United have already pushed a 12-month extension on his current contract but the player looks in no mood to negotiate. The manager and representatives of Fellaini have turned down opening offers by United. The club and Jose Mourinho, in particular, are confident that Fellaini would sign a new deal soon and stay at Old Trafford. Fellaini has been in sublime form this season, coming off the bench and scoring goals in crucial situations for United.
