Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan had always shared a very intimate relationship with late Shiv Sena leader, Bal Thackeray, one of the most unfathomable politicians, who had millions of devoted followers and who once controlled Mumbai. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan said in a statement that Balasaheb, for him, was like family and their relation was very close and personal. On Thursday, at the release of a teaser of the biopic on the late leader, Bal Thackeray, the 75-year-old actor had shared several anecdotes on how the late Shiv Sena headman helped him over the roughest patches of his life.
Speaking from a hotel in suburban Mumbai, Mr. Bachchan felt nostalgic talking about time when he and his family were facing serious accusations on the Bofors scandal. Balasaheb had called him over and asked him whether whatever was happening was right or not and to tell him the truth. Mr. Bachchan told him that that he is telling him the truth. The Shiv Sena leader told him not to be afraid. He further told him to stay indoors as a storm is brewing outside and when the storm stop, he must walk out with head high held and he will walk with him too.
Amitabh Bachchan further added that the late leader had even helped him to save his life after the near-fatal accident on the sets of the film Coolie in 1982. He also recalled that night it was raining and he was brought to Mumbai from Bangalore and at that time, it was the Shiv Sena ambulance, which came to take him to the hospital. He also said that Balasaheb had invited him and his wife to his home after his marriage with Jaya Bachchan. It was hard for him to see him ailing before his death in 2012 and never wanted to see him like that.
