Prabhu Ramamoorthy, an Indian national living in the US on a temporary visa, is charged of abusing a 22-year-old woman sitting in a window seat next to him. The incident happened on a Spirit Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Detroit. The 34-year-old man has been arrested by the authorities after the woman reported of sexual assault when she fell asleep next to him.
Federal prosecutor Amanda Jawad said that Ramamoorthy was sitting between his wife and the victim. He stopped after the victim woke up.
Two flight attendants told Jawad that when the victim reported the attack, she was crying and had untied shirt and unbuttoned pants.

In a written statement, he said that he had taken a pill and fallen asleep. He claimed to be innocent. His wife reported that the woman was sleeping on her husband’s knees.
A similar story was told by his wife. She also said that they had called the flight attendants to try to change seats, although Ramamoorthy gave conflicting reports about the entire incident.
Jawad felt that Ramamoorthy’s wife is either covering up his actions or she’s indifferent to what he did. The worst part is the fact that the incident took place on an airplane. He did in public, next to his wife where anyone could easily have seen him.
Ramamoorthy’s lawyer, Richard O’Neill said his client had worked as a project manager for two and a half years and there are no accusations from anywhere.
A report cited that sexual harassment on airplanes is a majorly unreported but prevalent issue.
The count of federal investigations into sexual assault on airlines has been growing slowly, up to more than 60 in 2017, from 57 in 2016 and 40 in 2015.
