Ex-Pakistan cricketer and the leader of the opposition in Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan, has agreed to the fact that he proposed a woman believed to be a faith healer to marry him but refused to having married her in secret.
As stated by Mr. Khan’s spokesperson, Ms. Bushra Maneka, to whom the proposal was made, needed time to take a final call to consult her family members, which includes her children. He went on to say that the matter was highly sensitive and personal to the individuals concerned and it was deeply upsetting that it had been brought into the limelight, courtesy of a falsely constructed story, making the life of “a very private lady” public.
He also added in his statement that the children of both the families have been put under severe stress as they came to know of this very personal matter from the media. He said that in case the proposal is accepted by Ms. Maneka, Mr. Khan will make the information public in the right way giving it the dignity it deserved and requested the media to let the two families keep their privacy.
The report was also denied by Mr. Khan himself, who was alleged by The News to have started the New Year by marrying Ms. Maneka and went to the antiterrorism court in Islamabad immediately thereafter to obtain bail.
The marriage ceremony was reported to have been conducted by Mufti Saeed, the same man who was the nikah khawan at Imran’s last marriage with Ms. Reham Khan on January 8, 2015, a couple of months after similar reports of Imran secretly tying the knot in November had emerged in the media.
This would be Imran’s third marriage if it happens after his first and second marriages happened in 1995 and 2015 and lasted for 9 years and 10 months, respectively.
