Sources say that as a part of the Happy New Year 2018 offer, Jio will bring down the prices of its plans with 1GB data on a daily basis by up to Rs. 60. This move will lead to reducing the base price of Jio plans with 1GB data per day to Rs. 149, which is a straight reduction from the current plan of Rs. 149. This will however have no impact on the tariff revision, which was implemented in October. Besides this price cut, Jio will also launch many other plans with 1.5GB data daily as a part of the exercise. These changes will be applicable on Tuesday, January 9.
From Tuesday, the Rs. 199, Rs. 399, Rs. 459 and Rs. 499 Jio plans will witness a reduction and would cost Rs. 149, Rs. 349, Rs. 399 and Rs. 449, respectively. All the other details of the plans, such as the data allocation, calling rates, SMS benefits as well as access to free apps, will remain the same as before.
The new 1.5GB data per day plans that would be launched by Jio are priced at Rs. 198, Rs. 398, Rs. 448, and Rs. 498. These are the same prices as the 1GB data per day plan, which means that consumers are going to get 50 percent more data at approximately the same price.
It is yet not clear when the price cuts will end, but things are expected to be more clear on Tuesday. The plan will come into existence just days before the ending of the current Jio promotion with cashback and codes of up to Rs. 3,300. Jio has a vast network of 160 million users across the country, and has been ruling the market since its launch. In order to sway Jio users to move to other networks, in the past few weeks, telecom operators have started providing more data without increasing the prices.
