Viacomm Motion pictures has finally announced the release date of the most awaited Sanjay Leela Bhansali production and Deepika, Shahid and Ranveer starrer Padmavat—the nation’s first movie which is going to have GLOBAL IMAX 3D release, as January 25, 2018, in Hindi, Tamil and Telegu, which was scheduled on December 1, 2017. The state governments of Gujarat and Rajasthan has banned the screening in the respective states owing to hurting of public sentiment in the story—Queen Padmini submits herself in the hands of death, while protecting her honor and dignity rather than submitting to Alaudin Khilji, the Sultan of Delhi who was mesmerized by her beauty.
Even though the release of the renamed Padmavat with over 50 cuts has been finalized, the Rajput Karni Sena has threatened to destroy cinema halls displaying the legend. Though there were objections to modifications in the historical saga by the protestors, there is quite a debate whether the story of the queen is just a legend or a fact!
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the movie with several cuts and change to the movie title as Padmavat to the epic by Malik Muhammad Jayasi after the panel of historians and member of royal families of Rajasthan sat together and watched the original uncut Padmavati and suggested the changes.
Now, Anushka Sharma starrer Pari, Daas Dev and Sidharth Malhotra’s Aiyaary will see a change in their respective release dates to avoid competition from the historical saga! The only competing movie for Padmavat is Twinkle Khanna produced and Akshay Kumar’s Padman, the movie spreading awareness of women’s menstrual hygiene. Both the movies will hit the screens during the Republic Day.
Sudhansu Vats, the group CEO of Viacom 18 immensely thanked the government bodies and CBFC for their support in releasing the movie and also stated that it will not only keep up with the viewers’ expectations but will successfully exceed them.
