Central-Nehru Park Line Plans To Start Commencing In 4 Months, Metro Tests Started
The Chennai metro rail from Central to St Thomas Mount (corridor 2 via Koyambedu), the last mile link is soon to be commissioned with a stretch line of 2.5 km Central Nehru Park.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety will be invited soon for an inspection as the trail of the underground metro was completed with the help of a metro rail train. The trial conducted has ensured the completion of electrification and track work.
After commencing of the metro train it will cover the complete Green Line (Corridor II) of the phase 1 of Chennai metro while connecting station like “Central Railway” and “Egmore Railway” to CMBT at “Koyambedu” (Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus), the airport and the intermodal hub Asar Khana at Alandur. The passengers can change the metro rail as the Central metro allows them to switch between station like Beach-Velachery MRTS line, MMC to Tiruvallur western suburban line and Beach-Tambaram southern suburban line. The metro line will help to reduce the travel time for the commuters who travel by express train to arrive at the airport of Chennai faster and easier.
After the completion of the inspection and trail by the Commissioner of the Metro Railway Safety, the authorities of the metro rail are expecting to start the service metro rail line in the upcoming 4 months, i.e. April-May. As per the information by an official, tracks, tunnel, signaling and electrification work is completed while other areas like exit, entry and other such areas are yet to be finished after which the line will be ready to start operating. Until then there will be continuity of the trails of the metro rail. At the start of the metro line, i.e. the upper level of the corridor II is completed while the lower level where the line ends is still on-going. The official further mentions that by the end of the year, the underground line, as well as the remaining portion of the station, is likely to be open.
The Central metro line project is the biggest “Underground Station” with the convergence of the 2 lines while allowing the convenient switch to MRTS lines and suburban, therefore, the work has been completed in phases.
