The last page of the passport will be continued to be printed while dropping the decision of the launch of orange colored passports by the Centre for the people for requiring it for the emigration check.
The 3 member committee requested the MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) to overthink on the decision of scrapping the last page of the passport as it will only create problems as it contains the personal information along with the address of the passport holder. Seeking the view and reasons, the MEA decided to drop the plan of canceling the printing of the last page of the passport.

The foreign ministry press release mentions that the MEA after several discussion sessions with the varied stakeholders, the decision of continuing the present practice of the last page of the passport to be printed while eliminating the new passport with an orange colored jacket for the “ECR” holders.
The passport’s last page had personal information like name of the spouse, father/legal guardian, address, mother and also the category of the holder whether he/she is eligible for the “ECR” (Emigration Check Required”. The release further stated that the issuing of an orange-colored passport for the ECR category people was aimed for quick assistance on priority bases.
Later, the politic parties criticized the decision that involved the “Congress” party who mentioned the orange color separate passport for the ECR status will indicate discriminatory mindsets of BJPs.
The High Court of Kerala received the PIL challenging the orange colored passports issuance. The PIL stated that such an act will only discriminate amongst the lower income status and lower educated people.
It further stated that education has nothing to do with the ECR category passport holders and also that the less than taxable income should also not be considered for the ECR passport holder. It further objected the decision of scarping the last page of the passport as it doesn’t justify with any reason or purpose while causing tamper to the holder.
