Today at MDL (Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited) will experience the launch of 3rd “Scorpene-class Submarine Karanj”. Under the project 75 program, the MDL has managed to build the third Karanj out of the 6 Scorpene-class submarines.
The INS Kalvari was the first one which was commenced on December 14, prior to this year. Khandari was the 2nd one which was launched already and at present experiences the sea trials before the final commission. The “Scorpene-class submarines” is built with an increasing concern due to the aging of the submarine fleet in the Indian Navy for which these marines are the primary modernization requirement to meet the need. The increasing Chinese navy presence in the Indian Ocean is also another concern.
Sunil Lanba, the Navy Chief Admiral will be the “Chief Guest” for the launch on January 31, 2018, of the 3rd Scorpene class submarine Karanj at the MDL (Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited) mentions an official from the MDL.
As per the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the construction of the Scorpene class submarines has an ensured technology which features superior stealth like Hydrodynamically optimized shape, low radiated noise levels and advanced acoustic silencing techniques. The MDL commenting on the issue says that this unmatched feature gives the submarines invulnerability. The submarines also have the capacity to attack the enemy with weapons guided with sheer precision.
The MDL has been developed with SIF (Shore Integration Facility) for simulation of various equipment and integration of the submarines’ combat system as previously the country had no availability of such facility.
In October 2005, the deal of “Scorpene-class submarines” was first signed while assigned the first delivery of the submarine in the year 2012 which couldn’t happen due to problems and inordinate delays. MDL explaining on the issue states that with proactive resolutions of problems, close monitoring and efforts in leading the construction of the assembly line has resulted in the completion of the project at initial stage by the MDL. The Naval Group had accepted the 20 months’ timeline given by the MDL.
